For 29-year-old Emily Nelima Wanyonyi who hails from Gatundu North, Kiambu County, Christmas came with an extra reason for celebration after she delivered triplets one hour after Christians around the world ushered in the day that Christ was born.

Emily, a casual worker at a tea farm in Kiambu, welcomed three baby girls through normal birth at Igegania Level Four Hospital.

She said that the babies came as a surprise to her as she did not expect to deliver triplets.

Now a mother of six, five girls and one boy, Nelima says that she regrets delivering the triplets noting that raising them will be a daunting task as she and her husband rely on menial jobs to eke a living.

She added that she does not have enough income to buy diapers and other requisite baby materials.

"Any well-wisher willing to support me both financially and in-kind is welcomed as this burden is now too much for me and my husband who works as a casual work in village farms," Nelima said.

Speaking at the hospital after donating Christmas gifts to the young mothers, Kimani Gachihi, a Kiambu government official said that the county had donated food and other materials to the mothers to appreciate and help them celebrate Christmas.

Gachihi said that Nelima, alongside other women who have challenges raising their children, will be facilitated to enable them to bring up their children.

"The county government is committed to supporting Nelima among other mothers in various wards across the county. We will not allow our people to suffer especially when Christ is born," Gachihi said.
