Chiefs in Nzambani Sub-County in Kitui East constituency have been ordered to work closely with police to apprehend men who have impregnated local schoolgirls.

Kitui East Sub-County Commissioner Peter Mwangi ordered the administrators to investigate and submit the names of those found culpable or suspected to have impregnated underage girls to the police.

Speaking after chairing a consultative meeting with the administrators at his office on Friday, Mwangi decried the rampant cases of teenage pregnancies in the area and warned that the culprits will face the full force of the law.

"We won't sit back and watch as indisciplined men prey on our girls. This must stop. All chiefs must identity the culprits within their area of jurisdiction for necessary legal action," he said.

Mr. Mwangi observed that chiefs, their assistants, and village elders are well conversant with residents of their areas of jurisdiction and could easily get information about men behind rising cases of teenage pregnancies.

Further, he revealed that two suspected pedophiles from the area, an elderly man and a man of the cloth, had already been charged in court over allegations of impregnating underage girls.

“The people engaging in sexual liaisons with girls aged below 18 years are criminals who not only destroy the minors' education but also their lives and should be put behind bars,” stressed the Deputy County Commissioner.

He also warned that stern action will be taken against chiefs found covering up such incidents.
