The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam turned tragic at Hola Boys Secondary School in Tana River County after an elderly candidate collapsed and died in the exam room.

Tana River County Commissioner Mathias Mbogai Rioba said Abdi Bute Sure, who was the chief of Sala Location, was taking his exam at the school where he was registered as a private candidate.

The cause of his death was not immediately established but the County commissioner said they were waiting for an official doctor’s report.

“Until we get official word from the doctor, we don’t want to speculate on the matter,” said Rioba.

He was immediately buried in accordance with the Islamic faith.
