A 63-year-old man, who is a Catholic catechist in Kisii County, on Monday, June 8 committed suicide.
David Gisemba’s body was found hanging from a rope tied to the rafters of his house in Nyoero Village, Bonyagatanyi Sub-Location in Kitutu Chache South.

The deceased did not leave a suicide note, nor did he inform anyone of his suicidal ideation, authorities say.
His family says Gisemba was in good terms with his family, and, therefore, they fail to understand what provoked his suicidal thoughts.
The deceased’s son, Simon Gisemba, said he heard a commotion emanating from his father’s bedroom, and when he rushed there, he saw his body hanging from a rope tied to the roof.
“I cut the rope, hoping he was still alive,” said Simon.
“While frantically looking for a means of taking him to hospital, I learnt that he had already died.”
The deceased’s younger brother, Alloys Gisemba, said he last saw David earlier Monday.
Daniel Ondieki, the deceased’s elder brother, said David had served as a catechist for over ten years without exhibiting any form of “depression”.
Confirming the incident, area assistant chief, Jared Oyaro, said the cause of the late catechist’s suicidal ideation is yet to be known.
“We, however, can’t rule out domestic problems as a cause of his suicidal thoughts. Before David committed suicide, he was seen talking to his son, whom he gave an undisclosed amount of money,” Oyaro told K24 Digital.
Police arrived and took David’s body to a Kisii Town morgue as investigations into his death continue.
