Busia: KDF officer cuts neighbour’s head after cow fed on his Napier grass

A middle-aged man is fighting for his life at Busia County Hospital after he was cut on the head with a panga by a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer in Sirikhaya area, Busia County, on Saturday, August 27, 2022.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, the victim identified as James Odoury was cut in the head by Mark Maana after his cow grazed on the officer's Napier grass.

"The officers established that the cow belonging to Odoury grazed on the Napier grass of the KDF officer who took a panga and cut him on the head before cutting the cow's hind leg and the tail," the police report read in part.

Officer yet to be arrested

The victim was rushed to Khunyangu Sub-County Hospital before he was referred to Busia Sub-County Hospital where he is admitted in serious condition.

The cow was taken home for treatment by a veterinary officer who ascertained the injury degree.

The suspect has not yet been arrested.

Elsewhere in Simboyoin, Londiani, Kericho County, two thieves are nursing injuries at Subukia Sub-County Hospital after they were beaten by a mob for stealing two cows.

In a police report seen by K24 Digital, the two suspects identified as Stephen Kipkorir Chebor and Nicholas Kiptoo Kirui were intercepted by the owners of the cows after they stole them from Kaptarakwa Farm.

Members of the public intervened by beating them up before they were rescued and rushed to the hospital.

The cows were recovered and have been kept as exhibits.
