In a statement issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the driver who had picked the passengers up at Machakos country bus station, at around 11:00 pm realized they were smoking weed forcing him to switch routes.

"The driver who was intending to take Uhuru Highway to Waiyaki Way detoured to Murang’a road and sped towards Kiambu road headed to DCI headquarters," part of the statement read.

Upon arrival, the detectives conducted a thorough body search on all the passengers who were travelling to Busia and nabbed two suspects with the illegal substance.

The two; Kennedy Mekemi and Lenox Abuoga were found with joints concealed in different places leading to their arrest.

"DCI commends the action taken by the driver of bus registration number KBR 628B, owned by Kitale Shuttle Company. The actions were heroic and are to be emulated by other drivers in the public transport sector," DCI stated.
