Some 45 passengers escaped death by a whisker after a bus they were traveling in burst into flames.

The bus, owned by the Guardian Angel Company and headed to Nairobi from Busia, burst into flames in Buoye area on Ahero- Kisumu highway.

Confirming the incident, Kisumu County Police Commander Alphonse Kimathi said the bus had a total of 45 passengers and none of them was injured.

"No injuries have been reported and officers are on the ground to assess the situation," Kimathi said.

He further said that the firefighters rushed to the scene to help contain the situation.

"Preliminary information indicates that the rear tire of the bus exploded and might be the cause of the accident," Kimathi said.

According to an eyewitness, passengers, who were evacuated from the scene, were standing along the road in shock as they watched the fire being put off.
