Burials within the Kisumu City will be considered a thing of the past after Ag. City Manager, Mr. Abala M. Wanga, banned the practice common in neighbourhoods bordering the lake town.
On Tuesday, March 2, the Kisumu City manager issued the notice banning burials and cremations in eight residential areas.
Mr Wanga banned burials in Mamboleo area, Manyatta B area, Railways ward, Shauri Moyo Kaloleni ward, Kondele ward, Migosi ward and Nyalenda ward.

"Residents of these areas are hereby notified of the prohibition of burial of dead bodies in unauthorised places pursuant to section 144 (1) of the Public Health Act Cap 242," said the city boss.
Now, Kisumu residents have been restricted to burying their dead kin at Mamboleo and Muslim cemeteries, and Hindu crematorium.
To bury adult bodies, residents will part with Sh2,000 for grounds only and Sh3,000 for grounds and a dug grave. For bodies of dead children, Kisumu City residents will part with Sh1,500 for grounds only and Sh2,000 for grounds and a dug grave.
