The family of the slain athlete Agnews Tirop, on Monday, October 18, has revealed that her burial will cost Ksh 5 million.
The burial committee - consisting of Agnes' family members, representatives from the Athletes Kenya Organization, and officials from Nandi County Government - gathered at her parent's home where they held a fundraiser.
The burial's organizing committee also revealed that the late athlete will be laid to rest on Saturday, October 23 at her parent's home in Nandi County.
Tirop was found dead in her home in Elgeyo Marakwet County days after she reconciled with her estranged husband Ibrahim Rotich. The marriage between the two is said to be a troubled one.
Tirop's husband Rotich, the main suspect in the murder case, was arrested on Friday last week in Changamwe, Mombasa County by detectives. He is said to have been arrested while trying to flee the country for Tanzania to escape his arrest.
Keiyo North Police Commander Tom Makori revealed that Tirop's husband called his parents informing them that he had murdered his wife and sought God's forgiveness.
Rotich was arraigned at Iten Court where he was ordered to remain in police custody for 20 more days as the police continue with the investigations.
Senior Principal Magistrate Charles Kutwa also ordered the suspect to undergo a mental test.
“The has also court directed that he undergoes a mental assessment at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital within the 20 days period,” the magistrate said.
The case will be mentioned on November 9.
