Burglars break into Kisumu County Assembly, steal TV set among other items

Armed robbers on Thursday, September 2, 2021, broke into Kisumu County Assembly Chambers and made away with items valued at Ksh70, 000.

In a police report seen by K24 Digital filed at Kisumu Police Station, Abraham Odego who is the Chief Sergeant at Arms in Kisumu County reported the missing items as soon as he learnt that the chambers had been broken into.

“It was reported by Abraham Odego who is the Chief Sergeant at Arm in Kisumu County that at around 0900 hours while he was preparing the chambers for a meeting, when he noted the missing items,” the report read in part.

The missing items according to the report include; one television make TCL which is 40 inches and valued at Ksh40, 000, air fun make Ramton that is valued at Ksh10, 000 and a digital camera that is valued at Ksh15, 000.

As soon as the report was made, senior officers drawn from Kisumu Central police station visited the scene.

The officers established burglars broke in through a transparent window pane glass and gained access into the chambers, hence stealing the said items.

However, the Coat of arms was found displaced but intact and efforts to steal a TCL smart Television set estimated to be 50 inches behind the speaker's chair was not successful.

Detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are investigating the matter after they processed and documented the scene.

The motive that led to the theft is yet to be established.

This comes just a month after police in Kisumu gunned down one person as 14 others escaped moments after robbing houses in Dansol area in Nyamasaria, Kisumu County.

Kisumu County commander Samuel Anampiu, one tenant who lives in Dansol area, said that they had a bang and immediately a group of 15 people broke into their house.

The said group of people beat up the Dansol residents before they made away with household items.

At the time, Anampiu said that the thugs broke into four more houses within the same block before they vanished.
