Bungoma county: Alarm as 18 girls defiled, impregnated in Kamuneru

Parents of Kamuneru area in Mt. Elgon constituency, Bungoma county are worried about the safety of their daughters after 18 girls of Kamuneru primary and secondary schools were defiled and impregnated.

Speaking to K24 digital, a mother of one of the 18 girls said their daughters are not guaranteed of getting justice since suspects' parents advise them to flee the area so that they cannot be arrested and charged.

"I am a bitter mother. My daughter is among the 18 girls who were sexually violated. The panful part is that even after reporting the incidents at Kamuneru police post, none of the culprits has been brought to book since they went into hideout," an agitated mother said.

She said they are worried that their daughters may not receive justice if the suspects are not arrested and made responsible to their offences.

"Very soon, these girls will deliver. Who will take care of them and their babies? We are therefore asking the government of Kenya to hunt for the suspects so that our girls get justice," she pleaded.

Another parent of a form two girl said his daughter was defiled by his neighbour's son before fleeing from the area.

The father said his daughter's academic performance has dropped following the life threatening act.

"My daughter used to post very impressive results in her academics, in most cases she emerged position one. However, after she was defiled her performance is deteriorating," he said.

The father who live in a rental house with his family members said her daughter's demands and frequent cases of morning sickness have stressed him and the entire family.

"Nowadays, my daughter cannot everything she used to eat before she was impregnated. Sometimes she makes some demands that I cannot meet, this is stressing me so much," he added.

He called on the suspects parents to support the security agencies by providing them with information that will lead to their arrest.
