Bungoma: Confusion rocks village after man who was buried reappears

Confusion rocked Kamukuywa village, Kimilili constituency, Bungoma County after a man who was thought to have died and supposedly buried appeared.

The man identified as Isaac Wanjala returned home on August 29 this year.

At the time, he claimed that he had travelled abroad contrary to reports that he had been killed and buried last year.

The family of Wanjala had claimed that he had been killed and his body mutilated beyond recognition.

"For a while, we had not seen him. When he leaves we just wait until he returns home. However, seven months later, we received the heartbreaking news that a man resembling Wanjala had been killed," his mother stated.

After identifying his body at a Webuye mortuary last year, they conducted his burial ceremony.

"People went to the mortuary to identify the body. A teacher, a businessman, and Wanjala's brother confirmed the body was his and burial plans commenced," a relative stated.

The family recalled that at the time of the identification of the body, a family member had disputed that the body was not Wafula's.

He was however shushed by the other family members who proceeded to bury the body.

The area residents were urged to be careful when identifying bodies.

Confusion as Kakamega family buries wrong body

The incident comes barely a month after a family in Kakamega was forced to conduct cleansing rituals after they buried the wrong body.

In the bizarre incident, the family of Emmanuel Shamwata that they had buried the wrong person moments after the burial ceremony.

This was after the family of the deceased buried by the Shamwata family stormed their compound demanding to have the body of their loved one.

“We were at home when another family arrived brandishing a letter from the mortuary, which stated that they were the rightful owners of the body we had buried the day before, which belonged to one Emanuel Shiyonga,” Ambundo, the late Shamwata's son told a local publication.
