Bukusu Council of Elders has faulted parents who have started circumcising their children before August.

The council chairman Richard Walukano said it was a taboo in Bukusu culture to cut the boys before the month of August.

"Bukusus had reasons on why they set aside August every after one year as the month of circumcising our children. So I don't know why some of us are going against it," he said.

Walukano said it was a taboo to carry out a circumcision ceremony while people were still planting on their farms.

"We are only required to carry out this activity when we have harvested our crops and that's August," he said Walukano.

He regretted that parents were rushing to circumcise their boys under the pretext that August will be an election month.

The chairman said elections will be carried out in a day and that August had more than 30 days which they can use to circumcise their teens.
