Brace for heavy rains, strong winds in parts of the country

Kenya Meteorological Department has warned Kenyans to brace for heavy rains in parts of Central, South East, North East and Coastal parts of the country.

KMD Director Stella Aura also issued warning over expected strong southeast winds of more than 25 knots (12.5m/s).

The strong winds are expected in Turkana and parts of Marsabit counties.

The precipitation is expected in highlands East of the Rift Valley (including Nairobi area, counties of Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi.

"Rains and showers over few places will be expected in the five days of forecast and intensities are likely to reduce towards the end of the forecast period," Ms Aura said.

Last week, Ms Aura issued an alert of possible massive flooding in the country as being experienced in other East African countries over the effect of increased warming of Indian Ocean surface.
