A pupil, who scored 385 marks in the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), risks missing Form One admission due to lack of school fees.

Ochola Gideon Okito is yet to report to Oriwo Boys High School in Homabay County since his mother has been unable to raise school fees for his form one admission.

His mother Judith Akinyi, a widow, says that she has lost hope of her son joining high school due to financial constraints.

Okito sat for his 2021 KCPE exams at Alliance Primary School, Maweni in Mombasa County.

Akinyi said that following the death of her husband in October 2020, she relocated to Homabay where she has been doing menial jobs to fend for her other two children.

Boy needs help

On his part, Okito said that after his father’s death, he together with his other sibling were left under the care of a pastor.

“My mother relocated to Homabay after my father’s death and she left us under the care of the pastor to enable us to continue with our education. She is unable to enroll me to Form One due to biting poverty," he said.

He called on well-wishers and sponsors to come to his aid and help him achieve his dream of becoming a doctor in future.

“I have lost hope of joining high school, and achieving my dream. I applied for the Equity Wings to Fly scholarship and yesterday, I called them as the deadline to join Form One was fast approaching but they informed me that I did not qualify,” he said.

The boy has now resorted to hawking ground nuts in Mombasa.
