A Bomet county government employee accused of defiling a 2-year-old girl has been released on a Ksh200,000 bond by a court in the county.

Joel Rono Chebusit who appeared in Bomet law courts before Principal Magistrate Kipkurui Kibelion was released after denying the charges.

Chebusit had been arrested on October 28 by detectives after the mother of the child made a report to the police.

He has been accused of intentionally and unlawfully defiling the girl.

The 55-year-old who is attached to the county disaster management docket is also faced with a second count of an indecent act.

The case is slated for mention on November 9.

This comes barely a day after the victim's mother expressed fear over the suspect's attempts to persuade her to drop the case.

The 30-year-old mother of two claimed the suspect had claimed the suspect who is a neighbour and had sent relatives severally to her house asking her to take the money and drop the case.

“I am afraid for my safety because the suspect is a neighbour and has started sending emissaries to talk to me to drop the case,” she said.

“They are insisting that I take the money and I have decided to go public so that the police can know that the suspect is hell-bent to interfere with the case,” she added.

Her lawyer Gideon Koech has however insisted that despite the attempts by the suspects the case would go the full length.

“We are aware of plans to try and scuttle the case by many players but we are prepared to protect the interest of the victim and ensure she gets justice,” he said.

The lawyers said it is shocking how doctors tried not distorted evidence through a misleading and false report on the P3 formed filled at Longisa County Hospital.

Koech said they have however sought a second opinion from Tenwek Mission Hospital and they will be asking the court to rely on the report from Tenwek.

“We understand that the person who was tasked to fill the P3 form was compromised in an attempt to protect their colleague but we have an alternative,” he said

Koech said he was optimistic the victim will get justice.
