A 4-year-old boy from Chepkogem village in Chemaner, Bomet County, has died after her mother plunged him and his 6-year-old elder brother into a water well and left them for death.

The 6-year-old survived after neighbours swung into action and pulled him out to safety.

The incident happened on Monday, August 23 around 10:00 am.

According to the DCI report, Sharon Chebet threw her two sons into the 40-metres well and left them to drown.

"Luckily, a neighbour heard the little angels wailing in distress, from deep inside the water hole. Together with other well-wishers, they joined hands and rescued the boys who were drenched in water, before rushing them to Longisa county referral hospital," DCI report indicates.

Detectives were yet to establish the motive of the beastly act by the time of going to the press.

The 22-year-old mother was immediately arrested for the beastly act and put in custody pending arraignment.
