Residents of Biribiriet, Trans Nzoia East sub county encountered a bizarre incident after the body of a suspected criminal was found floating in River Nzoia.

The unnamed deceased is said to be part of a three man gang that has been terrorizing locals with the three recently invading the home of pastor Julius Agesa making away with a television set and two gas cylinders.

“It was around 9 p.m on May 19 when I was attacked by a stranger in my compound. I asked him who he was and he hit me with a log prompting me to scream,” Pastor Agesa said.

The victims say that the commotion attracted locals who came in their numbers and pursued the gang made up of young men between the ages of 19 and 22 years forcing them towards the river.

“We closed the only bridge linking our village to the neighboring village with the trio being forced to swim to cross River Nzoia forcing them to let go of the loot they had stolen,” Ages said.

It is here that one of the suspects sensing he was being swept away by the river waves called on the locals to help him and was swiftly arrested and handed over to the local police.

Locals have called upon police to increase surveillance as cases of burglary

increase in the recent past.

“This is not an isolated case as there has been an increase in teen gangs crisscrossing the area and we are fearing it may be the youths waiting to join high school,” pastor John, a local from the area said.

He added that the criminal gangs also comprise of students from higher learning institutions who are often tricked into selling electronics and other house golf items in exchange of easy cash.
