Kisumu County Assembly Speaker Onyango Oloo was on Monday dealt a blow after the Employment and Labour Court upheld his impeachment.

Mr Oloo was ousted from office after 42 Kisumu County Assembly members, representing about 75 percent of the ward reps, voted to impeach him on September 18, 2019.

The ousted Speaker claimed that due procedure was not followed in the impeachment process.

The motion to impeach Mr Oloo was moved by Kondele ward rep Joachim Oketch citing 10 grounds, chief among them abuse of office and ongoing corruption case over the Lake Basin Mall tendering.

Mr Oloo was arrested on orders from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions following Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) investigations.

EACC investigations revealed that the cost of the Lake Basin Mall was inflated from Sh2.5 billion to Sh4.1 billion.
