A 16-year-old girl from Lurambi in Kakamega County died on Monday, December 23, after a swarm of bees attacked her while collecting firewood in a forest near her Shikoti Village home.

The deceased’s mother, Leonida Anamba, told K24 Digital that her daughter was in the company of her friends, who had also gone to collect firewood, when they were attacked by the bees.

“My daughter’s friends managed to run for their lives,” said Anamba.

Residents blamed the Kakamega County fire-fighting unit and Lurambi police officers for delaying in responding to the emergency.

The girl’s body was taken to Kakamega County Referral Hospital morgue.
