Thomas Kipsoto, the 26-year-old man alleged to have hacked a Form Three female student to death in Baringo Central, will remain in custody for 14 more days as police probe the killing.

Kipsoto was arraigned at Kabarnet Law Courts on Friday, September 9, where the police sought for more time to complete investigations into the murder incident.

It's alleged that the suspect, who was arrested on Thursday, hacked the 18-year-old girl to death at her home in Kaptalam village on Wednesday at around 9:00 am by using a machete before going into hiding.

Until the time of her death, the deceased was a student at Seretunin Secondary School.

Kipkorir Ng’eno, the Investigating Officer attached to DCI Baringo Central, made a miscellaneous application to hold the suspect to allow him to comply with all requirements before formally charging him.

“I pray that this court grants me 14 days in order to complete my investigations on the matter, I still need to pursue and record witnesses’ statements, and take the suspect to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for mental assessment before formally charging them,” Ng’eno requested.

Murder suspect to be charged on September 26

Kabarnet Senior Resident Magistrate, Caroline Atea allowed the request and ordered the suspect be detained at Kabarnet Police station until September 26 when he will be produced in court.

“Miscellaneous application granted, the suspect to be held at Kabarnet Police station while you comply with all requirements before producing him in court on September 26, 2022, with due investigations to help us carry on,” Atea ordered.
