A middle-aged man from Baringo Central sub-county was arraigned at a Kabarnet court and charged with stealing newly acquired church instruments valued at Ksh77,000.

Dominic Kipruto who appeared before Kabarnet Senior Resident Magistrate Caroline Ateya on Thursday was charged with burglary contrary to section 304 (2) and stealing contrary to section 279 (g) of the penal code.

Kipruto was charged that on November 9 last year, at an unknown time in Kabarnet township, he broke and entered into AIC Kator church and stole a sound mixer, Yamaha keyboard and one max wireless microphone all valued at Ksh77,000, the property of the church.

He denied the charge but was arraigned on an alternative charge of handling stolen goods contrary to section 322 (1) (2) of the penal code after a wireless microphone was found in his rented apartment near the church, a charge to which he again claimed innocence.

The prosecution counsel led by Casmir Obiero told the court that they have sufficient evidence to prove that the accused indeed committed the offence.

The magistrate ordered the accused to remain in custody till February 9 when the court shall determine his bond terms.
