Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok has threatened to send home county staff he accused of working with his political opponents during campaigns to sabotage his administration.

Speaking after being sworn in by Narok High Court judge Justice Francis Gikonyo at Bomet Green Stadium on Thursday, August 25, Barchok said it will not be business as usual as he settles down for his second term.

Singling out the health sector, Barchok said during campaigns, some staff hid drugs in health facilities creating an artificial shortage in a drive to paint him in a bad light and create revolt against him.

A visibly angry Barchok said he will only accommodate staff who are out to work and not those who play politics and sabotage his administration.

“My mission at the moment is to deliver my election pledges to the people of Bomet and this will be possible with loyal staff who will not sabotage me by hiding drugs and causing artificial shortage,” Barchok said.

Barchok's plans

He said he had laid down an elaborate development plan for the county during his first term.

Barchok said completion of the Sh100 million Mother and Child Wellness Centre in Bomet East is top on the priority list.

The colourful ceremony was attended by Bomet MPs-elect led by Victor Koech (Chepalungu), Richard Yego (Bomet East), Richard Kilel (Bomet Central), and outgoing MPs Beatrice Kones and Ronald Tonui.

The MPs vowed to back Barchok’s leadership and ensure he succeeds in his plans.
