Two days ago, Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino was under fire after hiding nominated MP David Sankok's crutches during a heated debate in Parliament.

Babu claimed then that he hid Sankok's crutches because the lawmaker did not need them inside Parliament.

“Hon Speaker, Hon Sankok does not need the legs (crutches) as at now," Babu said before apologizing to Sankok.

His action did not, however, augur well with a section of leaders more so those allied to Deputy President William Ruto.

Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura claimed that Babu's actions were like a mockery to people living with disabilities and a humiliation to MP Sankok.

“I wish to strongly condemn Babu Owino for humiliating our brother Hon David Ole Sankok by taking his crutches from him yesterday (Wednesday, December 22) in Parliament during the heated debate on the political parties amendment bill alleging that he ‘didn’t need his legs’ while in parliament,” Mwaura said.

Babu has, however, downplayed the claims noting that he only hid the crutches from pro-Tanga Tanga MPs.

He claimed that the lawmakers were debating on the controversial Political Parties (Amendment), 2020 with high emotions and could have used the crutches as weapons to attack those who supported the Bill.

"Tangatanga MPs were debating with emotions. They could have used Hon. Sankok's clutches as weapons to unleash violence on us, I saw it prudent to hide them until they cool down," Babu said.
