An autopsy conducted on the body of Karen DCI boss Anne Waiganjo has revealed that the detective died from a heart related condition.

Wanjiru died on Saturday, July 3 after she collapsed at a farewell party in Baita Restaurant at Nairobi's Upper Hill.

According to a report seen by K24 Digital, Waiganjo succumbed to deep vein thrombosis following a blood clot in her left leg.

The DCI boss collapsed at around 5pm last week while attending the farewell party of a senior police officer, SSP Henry M. Kiambata.

“Today 3rd July 2021 at around 1739hrs duty officer Capitol Hill received a report from SCCIO Langata, Mr Abdirashid Yakub, that one No.235389 CI (w) Ann Wanjiru Waiganjo the Officer in charge DCI Karen suddenly collapsed while at Baita Restaurant within Upper Hill,” a police report seen by K24 Digital stated.

“She was rushed to Nairobi Hospital and pronounced dead upon arrival,” the police report revealed.

Wanjiru's death has brought to the limelight the detective's past life which was marred by controversy.

In 2019, Wanjiru was on the spot after it emerged that she married two men at the same time.

Wanjiru who is a younger sister to Kenya’s famous police impersonator Joshua Waiganjo had a lot of challenges in her first marriage.

She was first married to David Murimi an inspector in the police force before she left him for David Mbitu Muchia, a junior officer in the prisons service.

Wanjiru exchanged vows in church with Mbitu in a wedding that was attended by top Kenyan cops.

At the time, she was still married to her previous husband who according to papers, exchanged vows at the Attorney General’s office.

Such an offence according to Kenyan law is known as bigamy- the offence of marrying someone else while one is already married to someone else.

However, in her defence, Wanjiru said that she had long-time parted ways with her first husband citing physical and verbal abuse.

She alleged that at one point, she was physically abused and even reported the matter at Kikuyu Police Station but later decided to forgive him because they both work in the service.

A court document seen by K24 Digital revealed that Wanjiru filed a divorce on July 3, 2020 stating that the relationship had broken down and could not be reverted.

K24 Digital has established that after Wanjiru filed for divorce, she experienced unending career-targeted threats.

At some point, she even considered withdrawing the matter from court.

However, the matter went under after a court ruling and the officer has been conducting her duties at the Karen Police Station.

A junior colleague who was working with her for years said that Wanjiru was well adding that they were all shocked when they were informed of her death.

Her body is currently lying at Kenyatta University Morgue.
