A family in Mandera is mourning the death of their kin who was on Monday, February 28 killed by suspected Al Shabaab militants.

Mohamed Abdi Ahmed, Omar Jilicow Sub-Location Assistant Chief, was killed at the Hargasu area along Arabia-Mandera road- while riding his official motorbike heading home.

A senior police officer who spoke to K24 Digital on condition of anonymity since he is not authorized to address the media revealed that the police are treating the matter as a terror attack.

"The police are treating the matter as an act of terror and they have already begun pursuing leads to help them capture the attacker," the officer said.

The deceased family who revealed that the administrator was only two years old in the office, has called on the government to ensure justice is served to their kin.

Abdirahman Ahmed, the Assistant Chief's brother, decried the increased insecurity cases that have been witnessed in Mandera of late.

“It is sad that we everyday mourn our loved ones who are killed between Arabia- Mandera road. May Allah grants my brother Janatul Firdows,” he said.

“The Arabia- Mandera road has now become an area where people are butchered and the sad part is that the perpetrators of these murders are never punished,” Ahmed added.

Early this month, eight people were killed in Arabia, Hargasu along the Mandera- Lafey road after a matatu their were driving in was hit by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

An intelligence report revealed that the attack was conducted by six Al Shabaab operatives who managed to escape into Somalia.
