Police in Shinyalu, Kakamega County have arrested a woman for locking up her five children in the house and involving them in continuous prayer, saying she won’t let the kids go to school because “Jesus never went to school, but He is revered nonetheless”.

Benedictor Khayesi was arrested Friday alongside her children aged 17, 15, 13, 6 and 4.

“The woman said she lives by the Biblical teachings, and that in the Holy Book, there’s nowhere it’s mentioned that Jesus went to school,” Mukhonje Assistant Chief Isaac Makomere told K24 Digital.

The administrator said Khayesi will be charged with denying her children the right to education.
