Detectives in Nairobi have launched a hunt for three thugs who raided a bar in Ruaraka and robbed revellers at gun point.

In a statement on Wednesday, May 24, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the armed robbers posing as mentally ill beggars entered Reke Marie pub located in Kasabuni area pretending to beg for food.

However, hell broke loose when one of the suspects whipped out a riffle from his sack and ordered all the patrons to lie down before the thugs started ransacking their pockets.

"The three miscreants who were armed with a firearm initially posed as vagabonds of unsound mind carrying sacks on their backs, before entering Reke Marie pub to seek for alms," DCI said.

"All this while, the revellers who were unperturbed by the trio’s presence continued corroding their oesophagal glands with impunity as they downed cold swallows, until one of the presumed madmen whipped out a riffle from his sack and ordered everyone to lie down!"

The thugs made away with mobile phones, cash and other valuables belonging to the patrons, some of whom were too drunk to confront the intruders.

As they made their way out of the joint, one of the revellers is said to have hurled insults at the thugs who out of anger fired two rounds of ammunition in the air to scare him.

The gunshots attracted the attention of police officers on patrol who immediately rushed to the scene. However, by the time of their arrival, the thugs had vanished into darkness.

The officers managed to recover two empty cartridges from the scene.

Police are pursuing leads into the whereabouts of the thugs who are still at large.

"The spent cartridges have since been sent to the DCI National Forensic Laboratory for scientific analysis by ballistic experts," DCI added.
