Police officers in Kuria West, Migori County have arrested Veronica Mahati Ghati who is the wife of Kombe Location Chief for allegedly forcing her daughter to undergo Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
Interestingly, authorities were tipped by the Chief himself.
“The matter was reported to the police by the girl’s father (the Chief), who got annoyed when he was told that her daughter had undergone the cut,” Kuria West Sub-County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo revealed.

The unidentified chief revealed that his wife took their daughter for the cut on Monday without his consent.
“The woman shall be arraigned in court to face charges after the investigations are complete,” Kimaiyo said, adding that she will be arraigned on Wednesday, January 5.
According to police in Migori, FGM is rampant, especially in Kuria.
