State House digital strategist Dennis Itumbi is the biological father of a 5-month-old girl he got with a Nairobi-based woman, DNA test results released to the children’s court on Friday, November 29, show.

Itumbi has, in the meantime, been ordered to pay at least Ksh20, 000 monthly until the case filed by the woman at the Milimani Law Courts is heard and determined.

In September this year, Itumbi demanded a DNA test to prove that the complainant’s child was sired by him. That came after the woman went to court to demand child maintenance from the controversial digital strategist, who is now rumoured to be working for Deputy President William Ruto.

The court has allowed Itumbi and the mother of his daughter to try reach an out-of-court agreement on the amount of money he will part with monthly before the justice dispenser intervenes further.

The children’s court set December 18, 2019 as the date both parties will appear before it to submit a report on the progress of the out-of-court agreement. Should Itumbi and the plaintiff fail to strike a deal out of the corridors of justice, then the case will be heard and determined sometime in 2020.

The plaintiff, through her lawyer Enricah Dulo, told the court in September that Itumbi impregnated and abandoned her to solely provide for their daughter, who was born on June 19, 2019.

The complainant said shortly after she conceived in August, 2018 and informed Itumbi about the pregnancy, the digital strategist fled.

The plaintiff, who is an orphan, said she dated Itumbi between January 2018 and August 2018.

The woman wanted Itumbi compelled by the court to pay a monthly child upkeep of Ksh50, 000 as the case continues.

The complainant filed the suit at the Milimani Children’s court.

“We urge the court to expedite the case for the minor’s sake,” said the woman’s lawyer, Dulo.

The woman said when she gave birth, she left her work to take care of the child, a situation that left her with no sufficient finances to provide for the girl.

According to her, Itumbi is yet to send a single coin for the child’s welfare.

“The applicant has unsuccessfully tried to engage the defendant to provide maintenance for the minor, but he always refuses to attend the mediation meetings. Instead, he usually sends his friend Gitau, who is not even an advocate,” said Dulo.

The lawyer further accused Itumbi of cruelly treating his client and her baby.

The applicant said, in her court documents, that Itumbi unsuccessfully tried to convince her to abort the pregnancy.

“On October 26, 2018, Itumbi invited the applicant for a meeting, in which he, again, attempted to convince her to get rid of the unborn baby,” said Dulo.

Besides child upkeep, the woman also wants Itumbi’s name inscribed on her daughter’s birth certificate. She also wants the baby enrolled in a health insurance scheme that will be paid for by Itumbi.

“My client wants a copy of the respondent’s national identity card so that she can include his name on the child’s birth certificate. My client also wants the respondent to set up a trust for the minor because the girl is his only known child,” said Dulo.
