Socialite Amber Ray's ex-husband Zaheer Jhanda of UDA secured an early win in Nyaribari Chache constituency after flooring veteran politician Richard Tong'i of Jubilee party.
The outgoing Nyaribari Chache MP conceded defeat even before IEBC announced the official results. Constituency returning officer Mark Manko said the results were still streaming in.
According to preliminary reports, UDA candidate Jhanda had taken an unassailable lead with Tong’i trailing in most polling stations.
The outgoing Nyaribari Chache, who was defending his seat for a third term, sent a message to journalists and posted the same in Whatsapp groups.
“It’s my prayer that our Lord has other great plans. I wish my new MP well as he serves our people. May our families be blessed mightily. Good people, I may not have done everything that the people of Nyaribari Chache wanted, but I have no doubt in my mind that I did my very best to improve the constituency,” Tong’i said.
If he is confirmed the winner, Jhanda, a Kenyan of Asian origin will be the next MP. He was born and raised in Kisii.
Jhanda married Amber Ray as second wife
Amber Ray has been married as a second wife at least two times - to Jamal Rohosafi Marlow and Jhanda who has been elected as MP for Nyaribari Chache constituency on a UDA ticket.
The socialite eloped with Jhanda sometime in 2016 sparking a furious reaction from the politician's first wife Aaliyah Zaheer who exposed her claiming she is a husband-snatcher.
Aaliyah posted on Facebook that Amber Ray had gone to a witch doctor so that she could get love portions to charm her husband, a claim Amber Ray refuted.
Complete with photographic evidence of the socialite in a shack, holding two chickens, one white and black, and covered from head to toe in strange clothing, Aaliyah claimed the picture was taken in a witch doctor’s den where Amber had gone to seek portions to ensnare Jhanda.
“..to me and my family you are a non-issue apart from this time you have done the unbelievable at your age you can resort to witchcraft. Ladies beware…” Aaliyah's post read in part.
Aaliyah further lamented that the socialite was using witchcraft to attract the attention and money of her husband and father to their four kids.
“I only got to know about the alleged affair after my trip to China, when my neighbours and sons told me that a strange lady has been visiting our matrimonial home while I was away on the trip. Prior to these, my family lived happily. My husband is a loving, humble family man and we have not experienced fights before,” Aaliyah said during an interview with the Nairobian.
Zaheer Jhanda ultimately married Amber Ray as his second but they parted ways in 2018.
In August 2018, Amber Ray publicly announced that she had parted ways with the politician turned businessman.
“I would like to inform you that I am no longer married to Zaheer and no one should link me to him or his family in whatever way. It has been a great couple of years despite the challenges that I have come across, I apologise to my son and my family for all the insults they have had to bear in the past because of my decisions,” Amber Ray wrote.
