Somalia’s Jubaland region will head to the polls on August 24; an election whose results could shape the peace agenda in the Horn of Africa nation.

Sheikh Ahmed Mohammed, alias Madobe, who is the incumbent, is regarded as the front-runner in the run-up to the Election Date.

Madobe will face off with eight other candidates.

Madobe is credited for leading anti-Shabaab agenda in Kismayo.

The incumbent head of Jubaland says, should get re-elected, he hopes to continue with the mission of distabilising the Al-Shabaab terrorist group.

Madobe is reportedly facing opposition by Somalia’s Head of State, Mohamed Farmajo, who is allegedly mobilising other clans against him.

It is only a matter of weeks, when the Southern region of Somalia holds its election and the winner announced, a result that could have far-reaching impact, especially in the fight against Al-Shabaab.
