A total of 72 students from Mukumu Girls' have been admitted at Kakamega County General Hospital with diarrhoea.

This has been confirmed following test results by public health officers and medics in the facility, who ruled out cases of cholera.

According to the hospital, the girls are likely to have suffered food poisoning.

The director of communications Sumba Juma says the hospital is still receiving more casualties and shall release a full statement once facts are ascertained.

In the meantime, there will be further tests and inspections conducted at the school.
