Residents of Kipsaina trading centre in Cherangany constituency, Trans Nzoia County were shocked to find a body of a 70-year-old man lying lifeless some few meters from Kipsaina police post Tuesday morning.

Abel Kidambi one of the residents of Sinyereri ward told K24 Digital that they were shocked to find the body of Ezekiel Maroma lifeless less than 200 meters from the police post.

Kidambi said the body had some injuries and an indication that he was tortured before he succumbed to injuries.

“We are still wondering who killed Maroma and yet the 7:00 pm-4.00 am curfew is still in place. The only people walking by this time are police officers, what do they know?” Kidambi asked.

The residents called on the security arm to carry out thorough investigations so that the suspects can be arrested and dealt with accordingly.

They now want the ministry of interior and coordination of national government to visit the area, carry out vetting of potential youths who are willing to join the National Police Reservists NPR, to help curb rising cases of insecurity in the area.

“We are asking our county commissioner Sam Ojwang and Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya to consider this as a serious threat to national security,” said one resident.

Sinyereri ward member of county assembly Abraham Mwale condemned the act and asked the government to beef up security and night patrols in the area.

“I am not pleased with security situation in my area, it is the duty of government security agencies to protect life and property,” Mwale said.

Police officers from Kipsaina police post arrived at the scene and collected the body. Small arms were found at the scene of the incident.

His body is now lying at Kitale County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Incidents of robbery with violence have gone up in Trans Nzoia, where more than 6 people have been murdered from the beginning of this year.
