Police in Kiambu are investigating a case where a woman allegedly hanged herself on Monday at a ward in AIC Kijabe Hospital after she was diagnosed with Covid-19.

Lari Sub-county Police Commander Stephen Kirui while confirming the bizarre incident said that the lady was alone in the isolation ward since no other Covid-19 patients were admitted at the facility.

He said that the deceased used a cloth to hang herself on a pipe that feeds the bathrooms with water.

Kirui explained that his officers who visited the scene said that there we no signs of struggle.

"We are treating the incident as suicide and DCI officers have embarked on thorough investigations to establish the actual reasons behind the incident," he told K24 Digital.

The police boss said that the woman could have been traumatized after she learnt she was suffering from Covid-19, adding that they are awaiting a postmortem to establish the actual cause of death..

The police boss added that the body is lying at the facility’s mortuary.
