Police in Karuri, Kiambu County have launched a hunt for six detainees, who escaped from Karuri Police Station at 00:30am Wednesday, July 29.

Five of the escapees were being detained for minor offences, whereas one had been arrested for murder, Karuri OCPD Michael Muchiri told K24 Digital.

“They escaped after breaking the window grills in the cells toilet,” said Muchiri.

All the suspects had been remanded at the facility for at least three months each.

“Currently, we have 20 detainees confined at the station after the six escaped,” said the area OCPD.

Muchiri said they have all the identification records of the escapees and that the suspects, besides their initial wrongdoings, will be charged for escaping from lawful custody contrary to Section 123 of the Penal Code.
