Police in Kitui are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a middle-aged man, who was on Saturday morning (October 17) found unconscious in a Kitui Town lodging facility.

Police say investigations have established that the man had, earlier Friday, travelled to Kitui from Mumias in Kakamega County, a distance of 550 kilometers, with the intention of visiting a Kitui witchdoctor’s den.

Kitui Central DCI boss, Singi Nzioka, told K24 Digital that upon arriving in Kitui, the now-deceased, who had travelled with his two male friends, hired the services of a commercial sex worker in Kitui Town.

After binging on alcoholic drinks at a Kitui Town nightclub, the now-deceased left for a guest house with his partner.

However, on Saturday morning, attendants of the guest house in which the two had booked, grew suspicious when the couple took long to check out.

On breaking down the door of the room booked by the two, the attendants found the now-deceased foaming at the mouth. On a table next to the bed, were two bottles of drinking water. The woman the Kakamega native had checked in with, was nowhere in sight.

Kitui Central DCIO, Singi Nzioka, says they are suspecting the deceased took sex enhancement drugs, which backfired, consequently, leading to his death. Two of the deceased’s friends, who travelled with him from Bungoma to Kitui, have since been arrested, and are being held in lawful custody at the Kitui Central Police Station to aid in investigations.

The deceased was taken to Kitui County Referral Hospital morgue, awaiting postmortem.

Communication records obtained from the deceased’s phone indicate that he had been in contact with a prominent Kitui witchdoctor identified as Kwik Kinyamasyo, and that on Saturday, he was supposed to meet the herbalist at the witchdoctor’s den in Mbitini area.

Police have now launched a hunt for the woman the deceased was with on Friday night.
