A 55-year-old woman identified as Catherine Gatiria on Monday, 3 October, committed suicide by hanging herself using a rope on a mango tree near her house in Kiriani, Chogoria Ward.
According to Kiriani Sub-Location Chief Jasper Gitonga Murithi, the deceased took her own life after confirming that her son and daughter-in-law had already left home for work.
Her husband had also left to deliver milk to Kiriani Dairy, leaving her alone at home where she committed the heinous act.
The OCS Chogoria Police Station together with the DCIO proceeded to the scene after a report was made by the chief. There were no visible injuries were found on the deceased's body after examination and no suicide note was recovered.
The body was moved to PCEA Chogoria Hospital morgue, awaiting postmortem.
Chief Gitonga asked residents, especially those facing depression to seek help from friends and family before taking such actions.
The motive behind the suicide is yet to be established even after the deceased's son pointed out that her mother had been okay, with no issues or problems that would have led her to take her own life.
This comes after a high number of suicide and murder cases reported in the county in the past week.
