Police in Nyali, Mombasa County on Saturday, March 27 killed five suspected robbers.

The suspects were fatally shot a few minutes past 6am in Mbungoni area.

Police said they acted on intelligence to ambush the gang, which, they claim, has been terrorising Mombasa Town and Likoni residents.

“The intelligence led them (police) to one house, where they were planning to commit another robbery within Mombasa. The [police] officers challenged them [to surrender], but they fired towards the officers,” a police report filed under the OB Number 08/27/03/21 at Mbungoni post reads.

The cops responded by firing back, fatally shooting the five suspected robbers. No cop was injured in the crossfire.

An AK-47 rifle, 33 rounds of ammunition, a panga, two kitchen knives, seven mobile phones and a wallet were recovered from the suspected robbers.

Police also impounded a motorcycle of registration plate KMEJ 275W from the deceased.

Authorities believe the said-robbers were using the motorbike in their operations.

The suspects’ bodies were taken to the Coast Provincial General Hospital morgue.
