4 dead, 46 injured in Kericho accident

Four people died while 46 others were left injured after an accident involving a bus along Kisitete-Muhoroni road.

Kericho county police commander Rico Ngare who confirmed the incident noted that the bus which was heading to Kericho from Muhuroni veered off the road and rolled several times after the bus driver lost control.

Those dead include three women and a man.

"The driver lost control of the bus at the point of the accident, three female and one male lost their lives," Ngare told a local publication.

The driver is said to have escaped after the accident and police have launched a manhunt for him.

Those injured were rushed to a nearby health facility while those who were reported dead were moved to a nearby morgue.

Separate accident kills 2

The latest comes barely a week after a mother and her child lost their lives in an accident at Namundi junction, Lwakhakha Sirias sub-county, on the evening of Saturday, January 7, 2023.

The mother and her two-year-old daughter died after a bus headed to Nairobi veered off the road and hit them while they were on a motorcycle.

Witnesses told police that the two-year-old was the first to fall off the motorcycle and when the mother went save her the bus fell on top of her. The two died on the spot while 33 others who were aboard the bus sustained serious injuries

"The bus hit the lady after it veered off the road, and Lucy fell off the bike to save the daughter only to be 'fell on ' by the bus," the witness told K24 Digital.

Bungoma West OCPD David Kandie who confirmed the incident noted that police were investing the incident.

"We have launched investigations on what transpired. The mother and the baby died on the spot of the accident. I urge Kenyans to avoid boarding overloaded vehicles as they put their lives in danger," Kandie stated.

"Let's be vigilant and check on vehicles before boarding them," he added.
