A 30-year-old woman from Kihoto Village in Kabazi Ward, Nakuru County was arrested on Friday morning (April 24) after authorities established she had procured an abortion.

The suspect had dumped the 8-month old foetus at a coffee plantation located 500 meters from her house.

Kabazi Location chief, Stephen Munyambu, told K24 Digital that the foetus had been wrapped in a sack and dumped in the shamba.

After she was identified as the suspect who dumped the foetus by authorities with the help of neighbours, the woman, who was arrested at 10am, said she had lost the pregnancy after developing complications.

When police and the area chief asked her to produce a doctor’s report indicating she had miscarried, the suspect remained silent and broke down in tears. She, thereafter, narrated how she terminated the pregnancy, wrapped the foetus in a sack, walked 500 meters and dumped the dead baby in the coffee plantation early Friday morning.

She was arrested, and is being held at a Kabazi police post.

The suspect is a mother of one, who lives with her parents. She had another child, who died a few years ago.
