30-year-old MPESA attendant arrested in murder of 8-year-old Shantel Nzembi

Police in Athi River arrested a 30-year old suspect in connection to the murder of 8-year-old Shantel Nzembi who went missing on May 29 and her body was found stashed in a gunny bag. 

 Nativity Mutindi was arrested on the evening of Thursday, June 3 by sleuths drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations who said the suspect was operating an MPESA shop around where the murdered girl resided with her parents. 

According to DCI, the suspect is believed to be the one who lured Shantel to thee trap of the kidnappers on Saturday, May 29. 

Earlier on Thursday 3, a court in Kajiado gave detectives based in Kitengela the green light to detain two suspects in their custody for ten more days as they probe the kidnapping and eventual murder of the grade 2 pupil.

27-year-old Livingstone Makacha Otengo and his 42-year-old counterpart Francis Mikuhu failed to take plea after prosecution filed an application seeking to detain them for ten more days.

The court heard that Otengo, a boda boda operator based in Kitengela town was arrested at Orata area in Kitengela, Kajiado county, on Wednesday 2. He was allegedly in possession of a mobile phone believed to have been used to seek ransom from Shantel’s mother.

Mikuhu was according to the prosecution nabbed at around 9pm on the same day. He is suspected to have used his ID to register an Airtel number where the ransom was allegedly wired to.
