Three children were on Thursday night burnt to death when fire razed down their parent's one-roomed house at Ulore village in Alego Usonga, Siaya County.

According to local chief, Eliakim Ohanya, the fire broke out at about 9.30pm when the family had already slept.

The children's mother said that she fled from the burning grass-roofed house when she noticed the fire, leaving behind her twin daughters, aged four, and their six-year-old elder sister who were sleeping on a couch.

But the woman's 10-year-old niece survived the fire, having jetted out from the house at about the same time as her aunt.

Siaya County Police Commander Francis Kooli said the bodies of three children were moved to the Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary.
