Three people died in a grisly road accident that occurred on Wednesday evening September 8, 2022, at Ilbisil, Kajiado along the Nairobi Namanga road.

Confirming the incident, Oloililai Subcounty police commander Joseph Mutiria said the accident was caused by speeding.

It is reported that a station wagon vehicle with four occupants heading towards Namanga from Kajiado, approached a police roadblock speeding, bypassing five other vehicles awaiting to be inspected before it rammed into a lorry heading in the same direction.

Two of the occupants in the vehicle died on the spot while another succumbed to injuries while being rushed to hospital.

The fourth occupant sustained serious injuries and is currently recuperating at the Kajiado referral hospital.

"The speed at which that vehicle was moving left other motorists and police manning the roadblock shocked. They escaped death by a whisker. The other motorist were also left shocked. Sadly a few meters after dangerously crossing the roadblock, the vehicle rammed into a moving lorry which led to the death of three of the vehicle occupants," police commander Joseph Mutiria.

The police boss warned road users plying the route against speeding, saying the highway has become prone to fatal accidents due to speeding.

"I want to send a stern warning to rogue motorists. We will embark on a serious crackdown on all road users plying this route. We will not tolerate the menace of speeding that has rocked this highway. This is a busy route with trailers and lorries plying day and night. We cannot allow a few individuals to endanger the lives of others," he added.

The lorry driver and his conductor, whose vehicle was rammed by the speeding car, sustained minor injuries.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased were moved to the Kajiado referral hospital and the ill-fated car was towed to the Kajiado police station.
