President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday, July 25, said he has no powers to influence who succeeds him as Kenya’s Head of State after his term expires in 2022.
Speaking in Ruiru, Kiambu County, during the official opening of the Bidco Industrial Park on Thursday, President Kenyatta said it is only God and the Kenyan voters who have the power to determine who will be Kenya’s next executive leader.
The president urged politicians to refrain from engaging in day-in-day-out politics that risk paralysing the roll-out of development projects to Wanjiku.

“As leaders, we should strive to ensure that we have improved the welfare of the Kenyan people. We shouldn’t be engaging in politics all the times. Leadership is given to man by God. Elections will come and go," said the Head of State.
“The Kenyan government remains a constant feature in different generations. It is, therefore, unnecessary for us, as leaders, to incite the people every other time in the name of politics. Let us work. The one who [God has planned that he or she] will be elected to office, will surely ascend to power. Me, I don’t mind who that person [will be] (sic),” said President Kenyatta.
The president's remarks come on the back of pressure exerted by politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto, who now want Uhuru to endorse the DP for the 2022 presidential seat, saying the Head of State should reciprocate the support Ruto showed him in 2013 and 2017 presidential polls.
Besides President Kenyatta, the Ruiru event was attended by, among other leaders, Deputy President, William Ruto.
