A 20-year-old man was on Wednesday evening (August 28) arrested ferrying over Ksh3 million in cash in Mwingi, Kitui County.
The man was apprehended in a multi-agency crackdown, in which three Nairobi-bound buses from North-Eastern were impounded and contraband goods seized.

The suspect, identified as Abdirahman Abdi Rashid, is being detained at Mwingi Police station, pending further interrogation by police.
Police are yet to reveal their findings on how or where the 20-year-old man got the Ksh3 million from.
The multi-agency security officials had mounted an inspection roadblock at Mutwangombe where the three buses and a Toyota Probox were impounded.
Among the contraband goods seized are over 20 bags of charcoal, 37 bales of banned plastic bags, 6 boxes of canned fish and 56 rolls of fabric, among others.
Mwingi Central Sub-County Police Commander, Peter Mutuma, said the operation was carried out by a joint security team. 
"Our office, in conjunction with the multi-agency team, impounded over 100 sacks containing banned charcoal, bales of polythene bags, boxes of canned fish, boxes of relief tablets, rolls of clothing materials, among other goods. The impounded public service vehicles also had excess passengers on board,” Mr Mutuma told K24 Digital.
According to the police boss, it is suspected the goods were being ferried from the neighbouring country, Somalia.
“Logging is illegal in Kenya. People should look for alternative sources of fuel, and not use charcoal, which is made out of felled trees,” said Mutuma.
The 20-year-old suspect and the drivers of the impounded vehicles are expected to be arraigned at the Mwingi Law Court on Thursday.
