Two men were shot dead after the opposition's anti-government protests in Kisumu turned violent on Monday, March 27, 2023,

The deceased said to be in their 20s were shot separately in two different spots — Nyalenda and Kondole.

According to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital CEO George Rae, one of the bodies of the protestors was taken to the facility's mortuary.

Rae noted that the body of the unknown man was brought to the morgue on Monday afternoon.

"I want to confirm that so far one person who was shot dead was brought to our facility's mortuary by the police before they left. The unidentified man is in his early twenties," he said.

This brings to three casualties in Kisumu since last week's protest organised by the Azimio la Umoja- One Kenya coalition.

On Monday last week, a third-year student — William Mayange — at Maseno University was shot dead by police officers during protests.

According to the police report, the incident took place at around 5 p.m. when the students invaded the Sairam supermarket and other business premises within the area.

In the police report, it was stated that the protestors lit bonfires and barricaded the Kisumu-Busia highway.

"After some time, the students started pelting stones at the police line where they damaged window panes in ten houses and the police station," part of the report read.
