2 killed in road accident on Mombasa-Nairobi highway

Two people died early Tuesday morning and 10 others injured in a road accident that occurred at Migingo area about five kilometres from Mtito-Andei town on the Nairobi- Mombasa highway.

According to police reports, a Mombasa-bound bus belonging to Daima Connections Sacco collided head-on with a truck that was headed to Nairobi.

Makueni County police boss, Joseph Ole Naipeyan, said the driver of the bus and a male passenger died on the spot in the crash that occurred at about 5.30 am.

The bus was carrying 49 passengers.

He said the driver of the truck escaped unhurt and fled immediately after the accident.

“The driver of the trailer was joining the main highway from the parking when he collided head on with the bus. He failed to maintain the required distance,” said Naipeyan.

The injured were taken to Mtito-Andei Sub-County Hospital while the bodies were taken to the Makindu mortuary awaiting postmortem.

The vehicles were towed to Mtito-Andei Police Station.
