Two Kenyans are among five people who were on Thursday night arrested by South Sudan National Police in Juba International Airport over alleged involvement in drug trafficking.

For months now, police in South Sudan have been following up on various methods smugglers use to export heroin from the country.

It had emerged that the traffickers were fond of the Juba route to smuggle narcotics, especially to the West.

“South Sudan National Police Service have arrested two Kenyans, two Nigerians, and a South Sudanese woman with 26kg of heroin at the airport," South Sudan police said.

It remains unclear which country the heroine was being transported to.

Police officers found the drugs stashed in electrical devices.

In the recent past, heroin and cocaine trafficked through Juba have been confiscated at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

In most cases, according to the police, the drugs are usually in transit from Juba to Europe via Kenya.
