Makadara: 2 injured, property of unknown value destroyed after fire incident

Two people were left seriously injured while property of unknown value was destroyed after a fire incident that occurred in Maringo estate in Makadara on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.

Police suspect that the fire started in a shanty workshop dealing with mattress foam before spreading out. The fire was put out by members of the public and firefighters from the county department.

"The fire is reported to have started at a shanty mattress foam shop owned by Elizabeth. The fire was put out through the assistance of members of the public and three fire engines from the county and two water buses," a police report seen by K24 Digital reads in part.

Those injured during the incident include a 42-year-old man identified as James Mwangi Waititu and James Manyaki Odhiambo, 47. Both victims suffered a deep cut on the head.

"James Manyaki Odhiambo aged 47 sustained a deep cut on the head, chest pain, and bruises on both arms and forehead while 42-year-old James Mwangi Waititu had a deep cut on the head, chest pain, and bruises on the forehead," the report added.

They were all rushed to the Metropolitan hospital where and treated in stable condition.
